Oikoi is a private place where you share within your own circle: family, friends, the people who were there. No recommendations, no discovery, no ads, no likes. The value is not in daily use, but in the archive that grows over the years.
Most platforms are built to make you come back. Oikoi is built to keep something. You decide what you share and with whom; the system never pushes. Hosted in Europe, without American services on the side, and you can always leave with all your material.
Your circle is the sum of your connections: mutual, no followers. A connection starts with an invitation, or by looking someone up with an email address or phone number you already have. We never confirm whether someone has an account.
You post photos or text, by default for your own circle only. Location data and other metadata are removed on upload. Comments are possible, but never counted.
Per connection you choose whether to serve as a bridge. Then a post with “extended” reach appears to that person as a reference: name and avatar, no content. Whoever wants to see it requests a connection — the sender decides.
No public profile, no shareable links, no search engine. Every photo is only served after checking that you may see it. There are no notifications, no badges, no streaks.
You can export everything at any time: original photos, texts and your own comments, in folders per year, without database codes. If you stop paying, everything stays visible to those who already saw it; only posting stops.
European hosting under European ownership, no sub-processors outside the EU, and on takeover or shutdown at least ninety days and a full export for everyone.
You pay for storage space, nothing else. Viewing is always free; whoever posts a lot pays more, and nobody carries someone else’s storage. A hard, visible quota — no fair-use policy, no ads, no features behind a paywall.
